About Us
The Chopin Society of Houston was established at the beginning of the year 2000, after a very successful Chopin Youth Competition in 1999, organized to honor the 150th anniversary of Chopin’s death. As UNESCO proclaimed 1999 year of Chopin, Houston’s piano teachers filled their studios with the unsurpassed beauty of Chopin’s music, teaching and preparing their students for the anniversary performance.
Our organizing committee, consisting of musicians and music lovers, decided that our work can not end with that success, but should continue as long as there is need for Chopin’s music in the Houston community and the means to support such an idea.
As many pianists and authorities agree, Chopin’s music is the best and the most beautiful music written for the piano. We here in Texas, at the Chopin Society of Houston, share this opinion enthusiastically and organize our competitions and workshops annually to bring Chopin’s music to life and pass our passion to young generation of piano students.
